It is early July, imagine a clear Kentish summer evening after earlier rain during the day...being outdoors with friends and loved ones...a picnic...
plentiful liquid refreshments...live music...spectacular firework finale...

Then that is just what happened for the fourth third year running on Higham Recreation Ground.  The Medway Band performed magnificently at the Higham Friday Night at the Proms on 6th July 2012. The Band treated the audience to a selection of music ranging from Jubilee Overture  to Fantasia on British Sea Songs (see the programme top of page for full details).   Towards the end the audience joined in singing Jerusalem and Land of Hope and Glory. Finally, as a tribute to our British Armed Forces & Veterans, to the music of Evening Hymn and the Last Post, the 1st Higham Scouts lowered the Union Flag in a Colours ceremony.  There followed the spectacular grand firework display funded by a village lottery draw set up by 1st Higham Scouts. 

Higham Parish Council and 1st Higham Scouts (who organised this village event) both wish to thank everyone for coming, the food and drink stall holders, St Johns Ambulance for first-aid cover, anyone (you know who you are...) who worked hard to prepare for the Proms, and, of course, the Medway Band for their polished performance.
